Chapter Ten

I

n the evening, Alex sat on the cane chair, under the verandah, watching the lightning in the distance, toying with the bracelet around his wrist. He’d committed to Kel—body, heart and soul. His thoughts circled, tormenting, soothing, igniting. The memory of that bedding when Kel had first arrived was uppermost in his musings. “ That smile would do a cat proud,” Kellyn said, handing Alex a fresh stubbie of beer. He reclined on the sofa opposite him, sipping his drink.“Ah, I like this.”

“ I brew it myself. I’ll make an Aussie out of you yet. Nothing beats a coldie after a long day’s work.” He paused. “I was thinking.”

“ Yes?”

“About you.”

“I’m pleased to hear this.”

“Kitty, you’re insufferable.”

“Yes.” His mauve eyes sparked over the rim of his bottle as he

drank. Alex set his bottle down on the ground and stood up. He suspected that Kel would never make the first move. Cat-boy was still smarting over that incident, the‘barbarian sex’ as he called it. He knelt by the lounge and leaned across Kel, kissed him, teasing his mouth open with lips and tongue.

The kiss broke when Alex came up for air. “I want you,” he whispered.

“Yes.” Kel’s fingers traced down Alex’s chest, heading far south, parting the folds of his sarong, finding his hot, hard length. Alex sat back on his heels, opening Kel’s sarong, revealing the erection straining upwards from the thicket of silver-gold curls. Alex nearly came with the words, with the heated look Kel gave him. He shivered, the expectation racing through him like quicksilver.“Yes.”

“Not afraid?”

“I’d never be afraid of you, Kel, I trust you.” He paused. “Kellyn?”

“Yes?”

“I…uh.”

“What is it? Never be afraid to speak your heart and mind to me. Never.”

“It’s that…um…protection.”

Kellyn smiled gently.“I will always protect you.”

“No, I mean sex and protection. I’ve been a careful guy. I’ve always used condoms. Except that one time when you and I screwed.”

Kellyn frowned, eyes narrowed.“I need to use this condom? It is an enhancer?”

“Uh, it stops disease. I’m not diseased. I…um. Hell, this is so hard.”

“What is diseased?”

He gaped.“Don’t you guys out there have sickness?”

“There is illness and death. What has this to do with me, with us?”

Alex swallowed nervously at the look Kel gave him.
